Does anyone know if flax seeds can be tolerated by a person with IBS?
Thanks for your help!

Yes, especially if they are ground. THey are a good source of fiber and EFA's. I put them on cereal and in yogurt-YUMMY!

Is Flaxseed Meal just ground up flax seeds or something different? On the label I have for the meal it also states that you can substitute the meal for butter! I learned something new this morning, seems like a wonder meal to IBSers???? Heather, have you heard about the substitution for butter? Interesting concept.....

Hmmm...I haven't heard of ground flax seeds as a substitute for butter, but I do enjoy using flax oil drizzled on rice or steamed veggies instead of butter.
Flax is a super healthy food, just watch out for the whole seeds and realize that it is a fat, so too much can be a trigger. Grind the seeds finely, and add to a soluble fiber basis (oatmeal, rice, etc.) and you should be just fine. Enjoy!
