Pasnacha - Welcome to the IBS boards! I was a computer graphic designer for a while until my arms and hands gave out. I really loved it. How much longer before you can graduate?
Considering how wonderfully helpful Heather's books and guidelines are, I have no doubt that you'll be able to return to school to finish.

Gretchen - have you had an endoscopy, where they look into your stomach? My husband had an upset stomach a lot and when they did the endoscopy, they found he had a linear ulcer. Now he's on Prilosec (generic) and feels much better.

Hi Sharon, Thanks for your input. No, I haven't had that proceedure done. I think I have solved the problem though. I stopped drinking peppermint tea or eating Altoids.. I am SO MUCH BETTER!!!! Pretty wild, huh? I guess I'm one in a million, since it's supposed to soothe and help me, it did the opposite! I'm very relieved... I switched to Ginger tea, and that is working with no problems...what a relief!!! ~GEA

Gretchen - that's great that you figured out your problem. I have to mix my peppermint with spearmint to "mint it down" some. I use the peppermint oil capsules sometimes, too. Although, if I take too many of them and then go #1, it feels "cool". Isn't that wierd??? Fennel tea is good too, with sugar.

Gea,
I think I recall reading somewhere that peppermint is bad for GERD and acid reflux...could it be that's what you have (you can have that with IBS)? I don't know much about GERD or acid reflux...but if you do a earch on this board and also on google.com I'm hopeful you will be able to find some info. on them. Good luck--and feel better!
Always, Ruchie

I cannot tolerate peppermint tea or altoids either. Both really make my stomach feel bad. I've been afraid to try any other tea, but may try the ginger.

Hi Ruchie, Thank You, and I am feeling much better now. I don't think I have acid reflux at all. Thank Gawd! I cant deal with much more than what I deal with on a daily basis.... I have a few other things wrong with me unrelated to IBS, or at least it would seem that way. I am better now because I stopped the Peppermint tea and the Altoids. Wow, what a difference! My stomach was 'queesy' (sp.?) all the time... it was really an awful feeling, along with IBS to be sure! So the moral of this story and thread is that peppermint tea is not for everybody... ~GEA
