Acacia question

I have 2 questions:
1.My husband has been fairly stabilized on 8 grams of Citrucel/day, morning and night, unless he has even the smallest amount of oil in his food, which consistently triggers an attack. Should he go up to 12 to 15 grams/ daily. Should he do it in 3 doses or is 2 ok? Would going up on the Citrucel help to protect him?
2. He is trying to switch to Acacia. How is this best accomplished? Can he just start using the same amount of Acacia with respect to grams per day? Or does he need to use less Acacia to start?
Any other suggestions regarding oil would be helpful. It is mostly a problem when eating out. Thanks.

You might do a search because this has been discussed so often; for example, here's part of a thread about it -- but read the whole thread: Amounts of Acacia Fiber

Just remember, whenever you increase the fiber, do it VERRRRRY slowly! No kidding. Otherwise, it's real hard on the tummy -- I know.

I would try to gradually get your husband up to a higher dose - see if he can hit 10 grams at least. Keep him on 3 doses a day, and just gradually increase each dose. This should help make small amounts of fats more tolerable.

Restaurants and fats are a tough issue - they just about always use more oil than you would cooking at home. You have to just constantly ask for food to be made with as little oil as possible. It can help if he takes a dose of Acacia right before his meal - that will give him a buffer. He might also try taking peppermint capsules - I find them very helpful for preventing problems from too much fat in a meal, and I habitually take them before any restaurant food, no matter how safe I've tried to order.

Best,
Heather
