Here's a question: does anyone have a bad reaction to frozen vegetables? It's a mix of carrots, cauliflower and broccoli. Granted I know cauliflower and broccoli aren't the easiest to digest, but I had prepared myself but having a soluble fiber supplement before dinner, then ate some rice, then some fish, then the veggies. And I had a bad reaction! I'm wondering if there's MSG in the frozen vegetables, and actually read an article that said there is MSG in most frozen vegetables, but it doesn't have to be listed on the package! Has anyone had a bad reaction from frozen veggies? Or was I just having a bad day? Thanks!

I have problems if I don't eat veggies enough soluble fiber (which it sounds like you had plenty of) or if I eat too much. But, I've never really liked frozen mixed veggies, so I can't say. The only way I eat them is if I make veggies soup.
That's interesting about the MSG though. I'll be interested in any responses you get on that one.
Hope you're feeling better soon.

Can't say as how I've ever had a problem with frozen veggies. I put peas in almost everything because (1) I like them, (2) they're convenient, and (3) they're REAL high in insoluble fiber content. When I make rice, I throw in some peas. When I make soup, ditto. Stews. I even put frozen peas in Kree's Mac & Cheese recipe. YUM! Sometimes I even eat them with nothing but some soy butter.
OF COURSE I always have the soluble fiber first -- a roll, slice of French bread, half a bagel -- even if there's a soluble fiber with the peas (noodles, rice or potatoes, mac & cheese, whatever).
Frozen broccoli doesn't bother me either, although I wouldn't go near fresh broccoli. (But that's probably just a mental issue since I've had such bad attacks after my fave fresh broccoli salad.)
Maybe I'm naive, but I trust what it says on the ingredient lists; if something isn't on that list, I assume it's not in there. The ingredient list on the half package of frozen peas in my freezer says "peas and salt." That's it. I don't know how they can sneak anything else in there.

That's strange that you had a reaction. I don't usually have problems, but did you make sure to buy veggies that were "fresh" frozen? When you defrost them, they should look just like they were fresh and not chewy in that kind of "carrot-pea-corn" frozen mix, if you know what I mean.

Frozen veggies don't bother me any more than fresh... but broccoli and cauliflower almost always bother me.

Not that I'm paranoid ... but here's a link about MSG/labelling food... Truth in Labelling web page
And here's a link describing common problems from MSG. Note irritable bowel is on the list! No MSG web site
Just a FYI. I've been trying to increase my veggies consumption, to get all the important vitamins and minerals, since I'm pretty much stabilized now. That's why it pretty clear when I've eaten something "wrong". I must try Bev's pea solution! Thanks for your feedback!

Was it one of those combos with the sauce? Or were they just plain? What brand? (so I can avoid it!)

I can eat frozen veggies like peas and carrots but if I ate them with broccoli and cauliflower I would have some problems for sure. No matter how I try to sneak in those veggies, my stomach figures out what I'm trying to do and darn it if I don't get stomach ache and lots of fun gas! I'm branching out to new veggies and have just discovered snap peas and started using those instead of broccoli in my stir fry.

Ooh, snap peas are easier for you to tolerate than broccoli?? I'll have to try them. I miss my broccoli so much!

I started making one of the recipes on this website with shrimp, snap peas, soy sauce and Mrs. Dash on top of rice and it's very tasty. I think Torbetta submitted it.
