It also says FOS is a soluble fiber and a soy fiber;and instead of probiotics it is PREBIOTICS for the lower digestive tract.

Hi SSS,
I took a look at the ensure webpage and found a FAQ page: web page.
It does say that Ensure is lactose free, but it also contains milk proteins, which can trigger attacks in some IBSers. Again, everyone is different so I would use with caution.

and it is a prebiotic, which just means it encourages the growth of probiotics (good gut flora) in the intestines. This is a good thing. But FOS (which stands for fructo oligo saccharide) is very closely related to inulin, and inulin can cause extreme bloating and gas. I really don't know if the FOS will have this effect or not - I haven't tried it (I've never seen it sold as a stand-alone fiber supplement) and I haven't heard from any other folks who have tried it.
