Hi! I am new to all this diet stuff! I have started using the fiber caplets, but I am a little questionable on some foods. I was at the grocery store and was wondering if these were ok to eat: rice cakes, chicken stove top stuffing, chicken flavored rice-a-roni? Any help would be appreciated! I know these sound weird, but I was looking for something cheap that had a little flavor!

Hi, and welcome Amanda!!!
Rice cakes are FABULOUS for us IBSers! As for the chicken rice a roni...I don't know what's in it? The chicken stove top stuffing is prob a no because I'm betting it has tons of fat (is that true?)
You should definately check out the Recipe Board for flavor...I think there's literally over 100 recipes for rice and what you cab do to spruce it up safely!
Do you have any other questions...we love em' here! so ask away!
Good for you for posting and for starting the diet! You'll be glad you did!
Again, welcome!
*hugs*

Rice cakes are excellent. A lot of folks here swear by them (unfortunately I'm not one of them; to me they have no taste).
Watch out for that Stove-Top stuffing. You have to read the ingredients, because I believe they sneak stuff in there that we can't have, such as non-fat milk and buttermilk (which I know is in Pepperidge Farm stuffing) as well as whole wheat (and I suspect MSG, but I can't prove it).
Rice-a-Roni might be okay, I don't know because I don't eat it, but I do know that Uncle Ben's version of Rice-a-Roni contains chicken fat.
You can add your own flavor to plain rice. I like garlic powder, pepper and "Fines Herbes." I even add a little Soy Garden "butter." It's excellent!
Welcome to the Boards, Amanda. See you around!

Hi Amanda, and welcome to the boards!
Bev is right, Stove Top Stuffing contains whey, which is a source of lactose and is a definite trigger. I'm really bummed about that, because I love the stuff. But it's not worth risking an attack in my mind!

Hey there,
Rice cakes are great, just check the ingredients cause some flavours have milk products in them. I remember that the chicken flavoured Rice-o-roni would bother me sometimes not sure why. But maybe it'll be fine for you.
Good Luck and Welcome to the boards

Hi amanda welcome and congrats on entering the world of healing diets!! When I made drastic changes to my diet I decided I was going to look at it as an opportunity to learn how to cook! I grew up in a house of junk food eaters and developed irritable bowel at 15. So I decided when I finally found a diet to help me that I was going to go back in time and only use fresh ingredients, herbs and spices and nothing processed (which totally trigger my ibs!). And now I can really cook! So just like the others said, check out all the recipes available. I know at first it is hard summoning the confidence if you are not a 'cook', but wow, when you make your first homemade stuffing, and yuo have the security to KNOW whats inside, you will feel so good! Good luck!
