My husband uses citrucel powder (1 scoop 2x/day)with success. However, when we go to restaurants, he wants to use pills instead. The citrucel pills do not seem to work. He takes 8 pills with large glass of water. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there another pill that works better? Thanks [color:blue] [/color]

Hi Bonnie,

I used to take Citrucel tablets, completely unaware that they contain ONLY a half gram of fiber -- which is nothing. I don't know how much fiber is in 1 scoop of the powder, but I believe it's at least double.

I didn't like the Citrucel, but maybe it's because I wasn't taking enough. I LOVE the acacia that I take twice a day. However, for eating out and other stressful events, I take Equalactin. I've talked about this so much on these boards that everyone must be sick of hearing it -- but the Equalactin is convenient (I keep it in my little emergency medicine cabinet in my purse), easy to take (like a Tums, you just chew it up), and it works immediately. I always chomp on one at the restaurant before my meal, with my "Tummy Mint" tea.

Equalactin isn't all that easy to find in the drug stores. I had to order it because they didn't keep it in stock, but that might be because it's fairly new or because I'm just up here in the sticks.

and I don't know why! But Citrucel tablets are the only ones I've ever taken that just did not work at all. I've had luck with Equalactin, Fibercon, generic versions of Fibercon, but not with those Citrucel caps.

I usually take my fiber at home before we leave for the restaurant. I don't think it has to be taken just as you're eating.

I also make sure I take extra meds (like Imodium) beforehand. I think I saw Heather recommend that somewhere.
