On the advise of an IBS friend, I've recently started taking citrucil AND immodium which has improved things. I've heard of equalactin but never tried it. Is it like a combo of the above - or - works for cramping pain or what?

Equalactin is just a soluble fiber supplement, like Citrucel or Acacia or Benefiber. It's got the same ingredient in it as Fibercon, but Equalactin is chewable, and I actually think that makes a big difference in how effective it is. Don't really know why, but it does seem to...

Heather I am trying to stay as close to your diet as possible.Problem is I live in West Texas & you don't find to much of natural anything! The health food store are far & few between. I do have problem with Veggie. And I did away with Coke,Caff,& I drink lots of bottle (Only) Water! I am doing better with aleast not being down for 3 or 4 days at a time. I did not show your book to the Dr. But gave him the basic of it.Of course Dr. do not always think common sence.I use to do nothing but Homepathy Med. before I came down with this. I appreciate all the advice.

So chewable works better or worse than than swallowing tablets or drinking powder in water? Curious because I want to take the very best one and can't take metamucil.

Yes, let the doctor sit on the toilet for 4-6 hours in pain and he'd be trying Heather's diet too. I really don't believe they realize how unbelievably painful it is. It's one thing to have quick diahhrea (bad enough) but to cramp for so many hours you end up vomiting & shaking from pain is quite another. Mine may be worse because I have adhesions on top of IBS. Sounds like most of you have quick - D, or am I wrong. Do any of you have hours and hours of bent over cramps? I'd love to know as I just atttibute it to the adhesions but maybe it's just one of the many forms of the "d" type.
Sometimes I've been so bad I didn't even care if I was eating healthy, just wanted to be able to function in life for as long as I could, when eating healthy meant more pain.

Well, I don't know about adhesions, but I do know about D and those cramps you're talking about! Yes, that's what I would consider my serious time, when I pull out the "heavy guns" (Donnatal). Heather uses her peppermint caps; she say it works better as an anti-spasmodic than Donnatal. I've commented on this several times in these boards because it bears repeating -- that blows me away because Donnatal always works for my serious cramps when my other meds don't. You might consider trying her peppermint caps.

Haha...it rhymes!! Sorry...I'm amused by small things. I usually get the aching stomach almost everyday but when it comes to D it's always something that comes on very quickly out of nowhere and then after I've made a few trips to the washroom I'm not too bad anymore although sometimes I still have the dull aching pain.

For me, the powders dissolved in water work best. Then the chewables. Last (but still better than nothing) is tablets that are swallowed whole.
Don't rule out other powders because of Metamucil. Most folks with IBS can't tolerate psyllium because of the bloating and gas it causes. But other powders are not made from psyllium, and can be MUCH more tolerable. It's also easier to get a lot higher dose of soluble fiber from powders than from pills. Acacia has 4.5 grams of soluble fiber per tablespoon, and Equalactin has .5 gram of soluble fiber per tablet. So you'd have to chew a lot of tablets to get the fiber you could get from just a glass or two of Acacia. That's why I actually like to combine the two. I use the powder Acacia at home every day, but keep Equalactin or other tablets in my purse to take at restaurants or when I'm out of the house and going too long without eating.
