Hello Everyone, my name is Chris.

First of all I would like to say I have purchased both of Heather's books and I do highly recommend reading them if you have not allready. I would also like to thank Heather for her time and willingness to help those with IBS. First of all,I have suffered from sypmtoms of IBS and anxiety pretty much my whole life. I have tried everything from antidepresants to antispasmodic, nothing helped. I knew diet must be the case but I wasn't sure what was missing. Recently I found heather on the internet and purchased her books. I read both of them and started following the recipies. Turned out I found something else while trying a new diet and I want to share my experience and knowledge with everyone.I want to make many of you aware of another possible problem. Hypoglycemia(Low Blood Sugar)! It is possible for HYPOGLYCEMIA to mimic IBS and anxiety disorders. If this is the case then eating many high carb foods can be a bad idea. I found many recipies in Heather's books to be high carb. When I first got the books I started on the new diet right away. I ate high carb foods such as rice and potatoes. (Other foods are bad as well) After a few days I began to feel really bad. Not till now did I realize that I have low blood sugar and that most of my intestinal and anxiety problems are linked to sugar. While IBS still may be a problem for me to an extent and I have to avoid many foods mentioned in these books, I believe the underlieing condition in my case may very well be hypoglycemia(prediabetic)Let me tell you briefly about it... Hypoglycemia basically is the body producing too much insulin. This results in too much glucose being used up too quickly causing blood levels to be low or drop quickly.(Glucose comes from carbohydrate intake) Some symptoms are...

fatigue,dizziness,ligh-headedness,headache,irritability,fainting spells, depression, anxiety, cravings for sweets, confusion, night sweats, weakness in legs, swollen feet,a feeling of tightness in the chest, constant hunger, pain in various parts of the body(eyes especially),nervous habbits, mental disturbances, insomina, over aggression and anger.

Once again, this wont apply to everyone but its worth mentioning. I also have done alot of reading and I believe that Chromium Picolinate may help in Hypoglycemia. It is also a major deficiency in most people. Good for all around health. Read more about hypoglycemia and Chromium before coming to any conclusions. Also please make sure you talk to your doctor. I dont want anyone getting hurt over my info. I just want to shed new light on the subject of IBS. Maybe even the reason why IBS occurs in the first place. Could there be a connection between sugar, anxiety, and IBS? To me it seems logical that it can. The brain needs sufficient levels of sugar to perform correctly. If the brain is not getting the right amount of sugar than it will start to mess up. As a result, maybe the intestines are the target. Please feel free to comment on this post. I will keep everyone posted on whether balancing sugar levels allieviates IBS. Thanks everyone

God Bless
Chris

Thanks for the reply.
I've seen many doctors about this condition and I am aware of what low blood sugar is. In the post, I said I recently found out. I dont mean yesterday. I supected low blood sugar a while ago, maybe more than a year! My mom is also hypoglycemic which makes me even more sure. I just never thought much about it untill now. Plus Im almost 100 percent certain because I have every single symptom of low blood sugar. The whole description fits me.I even use my mom's glucose machine and test my sugar. I think many people who think they have IBS may actually have low blood sugar instead. Thats why I posted to the forum. I believe I have a Chromium Deficiency. I think you should read up on Chromium Picolinate for it can help in glucose matabolism. That might be one of the only few things I need. As a note though, I am going to go see a dietian. I am also going to have other test done to make sure there are no other hidden problems. I read a lot of health books and do a lot of research online. Natural Healing books are good all around books also. They do cover IBS in there as well. Yes, I actually find it enjoyable to read up on this stuff. To me getting in good health is like a puzzle. hehe Thanks again!

Chris,
I also have to be careful to balance the carbs with enough protein and a little fat so that I don't get hypoglycemic attacks. Also have found eating frequent small meals or snacks is essential (like every two hours).

Regarding the anxiety/IBS link, I don't know about the sugar but there is lots of scientific evidence for both problems to be experienced together. IBS is a disorder of the autonomic nervous system, which of course also regulates anxiety levels. Sometimes people refer to IBS as the Irritable BODY Syndrome, because everything seems sensitive, not just the tummy!

Keep it simple!
