When one starts on it, can it cause bloating and gas? Anyone from Canada reccomend a good brand. I am IBS C but after having a glass today for the 1st time, I am suddenly IBS D Could be something I ate too I suppose cause I will admit, I am struggling to adjust it. Typical man as my wife says

Yes soy products in general can cause bloating and gas. You have to work our way into them. Most people start out on the desserts like Tofuti Cuties- ice cream sandwiches (AWESOME!) or other ice cream substitutes. The soy milk is kind of tricky. There are so many and they taste so different. My problem was I was used to drinking lowfat 1% milk. So when I switched to soy milk I didn't realize that you have to get light or lowfat as well to have the same consistency as what I was used to.
I don't know what brands you have in Canada..but most people use the plain soy milk to cook with but the vanilla flavored to drink and eat with cereal. It kind of masks that funny taste. I use Harmony Farms. It causes less gas becuase it is made from different beans. Just try out different ones. SOme are great and some are awful! Good luck!

Here's a few I like sold in Canada: Silk brand Chocolate (AMAZINGLY good) Silk brand regular, vanilla So Good brand Strawberry, other so good kinds are OK Parmalat makes several kinds - beware of the cafe mochaccino - it caused attacks for me because of the coffee content... too bad, it was good.... The vanilla hazelnut flavour was pretty good as I recall.

I noticed you're from Southwestern Ontario...where do you find these soy products if you don't mind me asking? Do you get them in regular stores? I'm in London and having a hard time finding anything but Soy Milk (no treats or anything good). Kelly

I have to get all my soy goodies at the health food store, 30 miles south of me. You have a health food store somewhere near you, eh?

Hi Bev, I assume there are some health food stores around here, I'll just have to find them! I'm relatively new to the area so I don't know where things are, plus I'm a night-hawk so I do most of my shopping in the wee hours at the 24-hour market, don't normally get out to places that are only open 9-5! I've found some health food stores, but all they've had is like vitamins, powders and bars...no soy treats...but I'll keep looking. I did find some chocolate soy ice cream and the grocery store, and it was surprisingly good so I'm pretty happy about that!

My favorite brand is vanilla or chocolate 'So Good' soy milk. But there's lots to choose from (Vita soy, Edensoy, Silk, President's Choice brand, etc). Do you have a Loblaws in your town? They carry several different brands.

I've found that Soy milk can give me gas, but it definitely is better than regular milk so no complaints. I really like the So Nice Organic type. You can get a few different flavours, I prefer the Chocolate and Vanilla. The regular isn't bad for cereals. The Silk brand mentioned in an earlier post is quite good as well. There are lots of different brands and flavours and I recommend trying a variety of them to find which ones you like. The So nice ones in particular are Enriched with many vitamins and minerals.
When I was back in Ontario, most regular super markets had at least some Soy drinks. The newer Loblaws in particular have a lot. The Safeway in my town has a good selection of them too.
