Chris, I think it all depends on how sensative your body is to milk and dairy. I try to avoid anything that even has powdered milk, but once in a while I'll eat things that contain it and they don't seem to bother me. I guess for the most part I follow the "better to be safe than sorry" rule, but if your body tolerates them fine you're probably okay. Especially if, like you said, they're way down on the ingredient list. Also, make sure you have soluble fiber before eat those things or take a pill with lactose in it.

Hi Chris,
For me, ANY amount of milk powder is too much. I made a casserole the other night using Pepperidge Farm seasoned bread stuffing instead of regular bread crumbs. On the package of the bread stuffing, milk powder was half-way down on the ingredient list (which was lengthy), so I assumed I could get away with it.
WRONG! The cramps began shortly after consuming just a small portion of the casserole. I hadn't had anything else to eat that could have caused the cramps -- I knew what I had done. Hubby had the rest of the casserole all to himself!
It's just not worth it; if milk is anywhere in the ingredient list, I'll pass. Otherwise, it's just a waste of money and an invitation to cramps and diarrhea!

Chris: I can't tolerate any dairy at all. I also don't eat condiments becuase of the vinegars and weird additives. So I basically only eat foods in their natural states, a little bit of oil and salt (no margarine or butter), safe seasonings like basil or oregano (no hot peppers!), potatoes, yams, rice, carrots, cooked spinach, applesauce, pears, mangoes, zuchinni, turkey, chicken, salmon, avocado (in small amounts). I don't eat gluten (no rye, barley, kamut, spelt, wheat, seitan), no soy, no coffee, chocolate, tea, absolutely no sugar, no corn or corn products. Sounds boring, but it's what I need to do to stay healthy and have a life! Oh yeah, and only water purified by Reverse osmosis. Hope this helps!
