What do you think about it to treat D symptoms. I was just reading about it and am curious, but it also talked about too much calcium and problems.

I was wondering this too. My doctor told me to try liquid calcium, as it was more gentle on my stomach, but I have been hesitant to try it, as vitamins always hurt my stomach. I know that I need to be taking them though.

I can recommend Calcium Caltrate 600+D for diarrhea predominent IBSers. It firmed me up nicely, unless I ate something that triggered an attack, then it didn't help.

Do a search on calcium -- we had a conversation about this just last month. After my so-called hysterectomy 21 years ago, my doctor insisted that I take 1,200mg. calcium every day, which I have done without fail. It's really important for menopausal women to get enough calcium to prevent osteoporosis. (I had a bone density test which showed that I had more bone loss than I should.)
I don't think my calcium supplements help or hinder my IBS (taking them is a different issue for me); however, the search may help answer your question better than I can.

Karin, do you not worry about taking too much, someone told me it could cause too much in the kidneys, but we arent getting enough if we dont eat dairy, right.

I take the generic form of Caltrate +D for my IBS-D. I started taking it way before I'd ever head of Heather & EFI, and it really helped me with the D.
Here's an old post I made about calcium info I'd read: web page They said to not take more than 2,500 mg a day.
Hope that helps!

I take 2 600mg tablets a day. That's only 1200 mg a day, well below a safe limit. Some others take 3 a day, I've never had that much myself.

Hi Mags; do you take your calcium tablet in the morning with food or at night before bed. Someone told me that taking it at night would possibly hurt my kidneys due to not having any food or drinks with it. I only take one tablet a day, so with food is better or on its own? Thanks Sue

Hi Sue!
Take them with food. I take it with dinner at the end of my meal. I've never heard of the kidney thing, so I'm not sure about that.
Hope that helps!

Thanks Mags; maybe I'll start taking after dinner. At least it will be taken with food. I'm going to look more into the Kidney thing! thanks Sue

If it makes you feel better, you could take it with breakfast or lunch, or even one of your snacks. I just take it with dinner, because I take my multi-vitamin with my breakfast, and you can't take them at the same time.
Let me know if you find out anything on the kidney thing though.

is it possible that calcium caltrate could give me Diarrhoea? i was going to try it as i have heard its good for people with D but i got really bad diarrhoea after eating half of the tablet (calcium Caltrate D+) and then i have a meal, then half an hour later i started with bad D. Is it possible it could be from calcium?thanks
