Yes they have it in grocery stores, but think about HOW they made it light................just less of the natural peanut oil.
I got tired of not always finding it so I just made my own by buying a "natural" kind, you know, where the oil is floating on the top and you stir it in before refrigerating? Well, just pour off the excess oil and there is your instant "lite" version, and there still is enough oil in the rest of the product to keep it from seeming to dry.
Yes, PB is safe but only in VERY tiny amounts. I limit myself to one teaspoon, period. A normal serving is 2 tablespoons, and of the natural (assuming you leave in the oil) the fat is 16 grams....200 cal., 150 of which is fat.........just by looking at those figures it's enuf to cause an attack but if you figure it based on one teaspoon the figures aren't so staggering. Divide the figure (16) by 6 (6 teaspoons equal 2 tablespoons) and you then have 2.6 grams of fat per your tiny 1 teaspoon serving. I realize one teensy teaspoon full is not much but if you have the craving, it's enough to satisfy the need. And, if you've made yours the lite version the fat is likely reduced 1/4 or more.

I've been eating the lite stuff for a long time -- that is, until the IBS struck. We used to eat "Reduced-Fat Skippy", but then did our infamous taste test, comparing it to the "Reduced-Fat Jif." Since I have diverticulosis, and can't have nuts, the taste test involved only the creamy versions.
Jif won out HANDS DOWN! That was based strictly on taste. As far as fat goes, well, forget it. A serving size of 2T is 190 and 12g. of fat -- and since I always have my calculator in tow -- that means it's 57% fat! Groan.

Well there goes that fantasy, lol. 1 tsp?? That's hardly enough to even set off your taste buds! But you're right, Kandee, I guess if I was really craving it that would be something. I guess I'll stick with my soynut butter. That's a little bit high in the fat category too, but when I use a little bit (about 1 Tbsp) in half a sandwich with jelly it's never bothered me. I guess I should feel lucky I can tolerate any nut butter at all!

I am still suffering an attack from peanut butter I had two days ago. I was stable until I tried a low fat cracker with a small amount of peanut butter, which led me to having 5 more crackers with a small amount of peanut butter. It is funny how I forgot how it "use to be" until I tried peanut butter again. So sorry I did. Now I have been thinking of applying for a full time job and am scared that I will battle with IBS just from the stress of job and 3 kids. I have been doing pretty well with a part time job. Any advice?

Drinking soy milk bothered me a little bit too. I don't drink it now, but I do bake and make puddings with it. I think that it helps to make rice pudding with soy milk, for the rice fiber seems to help. I seem to be ok with that and tapioca pudding too. Also, I eat alot of fish for protein. Hope this helps.

I know, I know, 1 teaspoon hardly sounds worth it, doesn't it, but give me the little PB on a rice cake with some brown sugar on top of it and I'm a happy camper!!!

I eat peanut butter all the time and I'm fine with it. I think everyone's different, so don't just assume it will bother you. Try a little at a time. I only have it in peanutbutter and jelly sandwiches(on white bread of course), so I'm using like 2 tablespoons. I only use the old fashioned kind now, it doesn't have the harmful things like Jif does.
