I've been constipated for about a week now. I tried 1/2 of a laxative pill only to wake up with cramps and diharrea for an hour and a half. I've never tried stool softeners or suppositories, are these better for you and won't give me diharea? I eally really hate that... Help me please!

Hey Rosie, I am in the same boat as you...check out the replies for my post on constipation.
For immediate relief, sounds like the suppositories are the best and safest way to go for now...

When you're past the one week or two week mark, like you are and I have been, diet becomes pretty futile because your constipation has snow balled. Previous constipation is blocking the way to relief of current constipation, SO with that said, and if you don't want to try suppositories, give Phillips MO a try. It's a saline laxative (which means it works kinda like milk of magnesia in that it brings fluid into the intestines) BUT Phillips also has mineral oil (the MO part), which will make the whole experience much more pleasant and easy. And it tastes much better than m of m - it has a mint flavor! Good luck guys, and tell me when you've had relief, 'cause I know you will, and I'll want to congratulate you for hanging in there - you'll feel very happy!

Before you try saline laxatives, try this: before you go to bed, and after you've had your 8 or more glasses of water, drink as many glasses of water as you can in a row (about three sounds reasonable). This may mean a bowel movement by morning!

I have increased my soluble fibre, and drink loads of water....over 10 glasses yesterday, many at a time (which kind of made me nauseous!)...if it didn't do anything for the bowels, it certainly cleansed my bladder!!!
Has anyone tried this: Senokot ?

I agree about the glycerin suppositories being best. Phillips milk of magnesia is better than stimulant laxatives, but it still bothers me and makes me go too far the other way, so I always advise against that!

Haven't tried it (being IBS-d!) but I think its pretty popular over here. It's herbal, isn't it?

Doing pretty good. Ate some bad food, well good but bad for you (badger special pizza from pizza hut), but it did the trick! I had a bowel movement that night, last night again and again not to long ago, I also started the acacia fiber today and so far so good!
