They sound wonderful, and I'll make them for friends on low fat diets, but affraid I'll have to stick to my wheat free versions....(sigh) ![](/messageboards/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif)

So does cocoa powder bother anybody? Some of the non dairy desserts I eat irritate me a little because of the chocolate. I still can't stay away though.

Cocoa bothers me. I use carob powder instead.

Do the non-dairy desserts you're speaking of contain cocoa powder or SOLID chocolate? Solid chocolate can be a trigger because of its high fat content. Cocoa powder doesn't bother me, but I wouldn't go near solid chocolate (and I'm a choco-holic)!

Most IBS folks are just dandy with cocoa powder. But, cocoa can trigger heartburn or GERD, so that's something to watch for.

Bev, it's cocoa proessed with alkali...what does that mean? Oh, I bought that Soy Dream mocha fudge...is that artificial coffee or real coffee? I'm dying to try it, but don't know if I'm asking for trouble.

Well, I should be careful with cocoa then because I have GERD. I do take Nexium, but it doesn't always work with everything.

Alkali? I believe that's a salt or a sodium carbonate that's a base. Like Heather said, some people can't tolerate cocoa; if you suspect you're one of them, avoid it.
The mocha fudge is TO DIE FOR, Girlfriend -- but it's too high in fat. The coffee in it isn't so much the problem I don't think -- because, as I recall, it's far down on the ingredient list -- but it's the addiction. I can't stop eating that stuff. I had 2 scoops -- WAY too much -- and ended up with a terrible attack that lasted for 2 days. I measured one of my scoops, and it's a little under a half cup, so in that one sitting I had ONE CUP! Groan.
For me, I'd be asking for trouble. It's not worth it. But if you can eat just a tiny bit -- and I mean TINY (about half a serving, or 35 grams), go for it. You're a stronger person than I!

I agree with Bev, the tiny amount of coffee in there shouldn't be a problem. And personally, I'm fine with a little bowl of the higher-fat soy ice creams after a soluble fiber meal. It's all about what your body can tolerate!
