I am currently taking Dicetel three times a day and I would like to eventually be able to stop taking it for something else that is safe during pregnancy. I want to have stopped it and be fine without it before trying to get pregnant. This might take a long time, that's why I wanna start looking for other options. Are antidepressants safe? Do they work for IBS C and D? Would I be okay if I only took Acacia fiber supplements and Mégatil (probiotics and prebiotics)? I live in Canada and I can't find products like Citrucel or Fibercon. Any help will be greatly appreciated, thx!

This is definitely something you should take up with your doctor.

Welcome, fellow Canadian. You need to talk to your Doctor about this. I think that some antidepressants are safe during pregnancy since I took one during my pregnancy although for another condition. It depends on the person, the med, and the Doctor.
As for stopping the Dicetel - again talk to your Doctor. Try following the diet to a T and try the acacia fiber. Heather's stuff ships easily to Canada with no problem and is very speedy. She posted an answer about the safety of the fiber during pregnancy earlier - just look through old posts. Chances are - it could be just fine - check with your Doc. Any other questions on pregnancy and IBS, I'd be glad to help (I've been through it twice)!

Thanks!
I will soon take an appointment with my doctor. Your answers helped me, though.

Dicetel is what my doctor prescribed for stopping D and C. It has worked pretty well on me for a couple of months now. As for the other medication, it's called Mégatil and it helps with the intestinal flora and it stops bloating. It's amazing how two countries as close as Canada and the US can be different medecine-wise... If you want to know more about Dicetel, you can look on their website and see if it's available in the US.
