I dearly love my bagels with cream cheese (dairy doesn't seem to have that bad of an effect on me), but I was wondering if bagels themselves are good for you? They are low fat, but not sure of the fiber content.. Also I recently had an oral implant and am on an antibiotic, for now my pain is gone, I know it will come back, but for now i'm almost pain free!

Hi ROSIE; I thought bagels were one of Heather's rec. foods. They are fine for me, if I don't eat too much of them. Of course, there are some huge bagels that just sit in ny stomach and I almist feel sick when I had it before.

Bagels are fine, soluble fiber. They're great (especially the basil & sun-dried tomato kind). I would worry more about the dairy cream cheese. Have you tried the soy cream cheese?

Bagels are great and you can buy some better than cream cheese by tofutti add some of your own safe fruit to it and spread it on. Watch some bagels though they have added fillers that might irritate you. Try a sourdough bagel.

I love bagels. I usually stick with plain -- just to be safe. I usually have them with the Tofutti better than cream cheese. Yummy and safe.

I would also recommend ditching the cream cheese. So many people say that "Dairy doesn't affect them" and then once they cut it out they realize what a trigger it really was.

Maybe you could sub the cream cheese for peanut butter or seedless jam too!

As for bagels...I would stay away from the multigrain bagels or ones with cheese in them. Stick with the plain white bagels or white bagels with "Safe" additions (ie: Sundried tomato etc)

Enjoy!

Oh, YEAH! I forgot. A hundred years ago, my doctor sent me to a nutritionist, and she set up a program for me based on "The Zone" (yeah, I know, you're all too young -- never heard of it -- I know, I know) --

Any-who . . . I was supposed to have a toasted plain bagel with peanut butter on it every morning for breakfast. That was SOOOOOOO good. I'd forgotten about it.

GREAT idea, Pretty Lady -- I'm gonna try it tomorrow morning!

Is your almond butter sweetened, Shells? Because I bought some for a recipe not too long ago, but it's unsweetened and I haven't found anything else to use it for!

OOH. That sounds really good! I love almond butter. Is it any higher in fat than peanut butter? We can grind our own fresh at the coop.
