Yeah, I stopped eating peanut butter long before finding this site because fods containing peanuts bother me sometimes. I started eating soy nut butter because it was the best substitute for PB I could find. I've been eating soy nut butter for almost a year, and I really don't even notice that it's not PB anymore! It's also nice to know that it's lower in fat than PB. I have SBJs (soynut butter and jelly sandwiches!) at least a couple times a week!

My doc told me that peanut butter wasn't such a great thing and told me all those things you shared -- which is why I used to indulge in the nutella every now and then (before I found out I had IBS). Today when I went to the health food store I found some chocolate soy nut butter -- it says it is dairy, peanut & gluten free. It doesn't need to be refridgerated - and doesn't have any trans fats. It has 50% less sugar than other chocolate spreads -and is made from Non-GMO roasted soybeans. It is not what I would consider lowfat or low cal -- so a little bit would need to go a long way -- but as a treat now and then .....

2 tbsp= 190 cals
14 g fat
2 g sat fat
0 mg chol
0 mg sod
12 g carb
3 g dietary fiber
9 g sugar
6 g protein

Ingredients: roated soybeans, naurally pressed soybean oil, granualted cane juice, cocoa, mono and diglycerides, natural vanilla.

It is the I.M. Healthy brand. I haven't tried it yet - just thought I'd share -- I'll let you know what it tastes like when I get a chance to try it.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to try that. I hope our coop carries it.

That's the brand I use, but I've never tried the chocolate! You'll have to let us know how it is. Sounds like something I'd like a lot! Their regular soy nut butter is certainly good.

The nutritionnist I saw last week made me buy apple butter. I know we're both in Québec City, but the one I bought is made in Michigan. It's called Eden Organic Apple Butter and it only countains organic apple juice concentrate and organic apples. It's defenetly a winning combination! You can take a look at their web site: www.edenfoods.com.
Enjoy!
