I have IBS like symptoms (not diagnosed) and really appreciate your site. I have been eating only soluable fiber foods for 3 weeks or so to calm things down. I also have migraines, although getting my gut under control has helped a lot. I am migraine-sensitive to tannins, but I see Acacia Senegal is very low in tannin content. http://www.hindawi.com/journals/ac/2014/192708/tab3/ Would you still recommend I try the Acacia soluable fiber supplement? I have tried the psyllium and cellulose for only one day each and had a lot of bloating, and cannot do wheat based fiber supplements. I do tend to have bloating though, so I may not be able to use the psyllium at all. Thanks!

Hi Lu - yes, the Tummy Fiber is inherently extremely low in tannins.
Psyllium is actually not a soluble fiber - it's about 1/3 insoluble, which can cause a lot of bloating and gas for people. Cellulose is straight insoluble fiber, so an even worse choice for IBS.
You are safe to assume that there is no relation between acacia senegal and psyllium or cellulose. I am not at all surprised you had trouble with the psyllium and cellulose. The good news is that would have no bearing on how you do with the acacia.
You would want to start with 1/2 teaspoon twice daily, and increase by a extra 1/2 tsp to one dose, every 3-4 days. Continue to gradually increase at this pace until there is no constipation or diarrhea. That may end up taking a few teaspoons to several tablespoons per day, but you still start at the low dose and increase gradually to get there.

Thanks Heather, I will try it! I'm at the beginning stages here and have calmed down my gut a lot, but need to go forward with the fiber supplement, then start adding foods back slowly. I'm weaning myself off my one cup of black tea in the morning and that should be good for the gut and the migraines. I appreciate all your info and help!

I have repeated problems with IBS-D and it seems to get continually worse. I cannot control the D. I have tried to increase (slowly) the acacia senegal fiber which did not seem to help. Maybe I didn't give it enough time or increase the dose to an adequate level. I tried to increase the use of metamucil fiber capsules and fibercon capsules, but they also did nothing to alleviate the D. I am at a loss for what to do to get this under control. In addition to taking librax three times a day, I also need to take lamotil to attempt to control the D. Please help if you have any advice.

Metamucil is not a great option for most people with IBS, and Fibercon can require an awful lot of pills to reach the dose you need.
See here http://www.helpforibs.com/supplements/sol_fiber1.asp for soluble fiber supplement info. That should resolve the diarrhea, but the type/dosage will make a big difference.
