When to take fiber? With or before meals?

I've been taking fiber supplements for some time now, but I was wondering if there is a best time to take them. Should I be taking it with my meal, or before eating? I usually take it when I wake up in the morning, but I don't eat breakfast very often so I don't have any food usually until lunch time. Is that too long to have fiber in my system without any food to interact with?
I suffer from IBS-C which is seems to be worse after I had about 16 inches of my colon removed due to diverticulitis. I feel constantly bloated and full most of the time.
I just found this forum and would really appreciate any advice that you guys can give!

Hi - what's more important is that you're taking a dose at least twice daily, and that you start at a low dose but gradually increase until symptoms resolve.
You don't have to take fiber with food. Having it right before a meal (or mixed right into moist foods) can help buffer your gut's response to food, and keep things stable. But you could also take on an empty stomach between meals, right before bed, etc.
If you're going too long without eating, take your fiber so you keep soluble fiber in your gut.
