Hello All,
Someone on this board posted about the VSL#3 probiotic a few months ago and said it was working very well for her.
I don't remember who the poster was. So I am asking anybody on here who is taking this product to please comment in this thread as to how it is working for you.
Thanks a lot and have a great day!!

IBS returned in late July 2013 after taking 2 oral contrasts for a CT scan for cancer follow up. Had more acupuncture with different practitioner in summer 2014, but received little benefit.

I've been taking VSL off-and-on over a number of years. I notice a reduction in bloating but it doesn't seem to regulate my BM. It's worth trying if you can afford it.

Thanks for the post! Are you IBS-D or IBS-C?
Does this product enable you to eat more foods that you could not eat before? That is the main reason I am considering it!
It costs $87, so now I am leaning towards NOT buying it at this time.
I think I may have better luck with other options, possibly the Shakeology!

Hi,
I'm IBS-A. Yes, it is expensive, however, it does allow me to eat greater quantities of foods that usually give me a problem. For example; I find that I can handle more beans & pulses if I'm using VSL.
VSL has been clinically proven to help people with FGDs whereas there's no evidence to support the use of 'shakes' in IBS. I think you'd be wasting your money on them.

What are FGDs?
Thanks for your comments!

So overall, you would recommend the VSL#3 probiotics?
How long did it take before you noticed significant improvement?
Are you able to eat dairy now and have alcohol?
I think I am going to have to resort to acupuncture to get the level of relief I am seeking!
Thanks for the conversations!!

Yes, if you can afford it it's worth trying. It's recommended that you take a probiotic for 4 weeks. If it hasn't worked in the first 4 weeks it probably won't help.
I'm vegan so I don't eat dairy and I still follow the EFI/FODMAP diet plan. I do drink alcohol, in moderation.
I don't believe there is any evidence to suggest that acupuncture helps IBS.

Hello Again,
Do you think that the VSL has helped you tolerate that moderate level of alcohol?
I am DYING for a glass of wine right now but am petrified if I DO I will have diarrhea!!
Thanks Yet Again!!

Hi,
I'm not sure if the vsl is responsible for allowing me to have a glass of wine. It probably has more to do with diet. If you're symptoms are under control and you feel like a glass of wine then try one. Just not on an empty stomach.

This is what I always do, and I find that with a meal with a lot of soluble fiber, I can tolerate about a half glass of white wine without any trouble!
But I STILL long for the times when I could drink 3 to 4 glasses with NO problems!!
OH WELL!! What do people say? I am LUCKY to be ALIVE? WHATEVER!!

I have been on the VSL#3 for about a week now and my bowel movements are getting to once per day! And this is without any fiber either!
I am going to get BOLD tonight and try a very small amount of red wine my husband bought me for Christmas! Hope the wine is not too OLD!!
Wish me LUCK folks!
