I was able to search and find previous messages about taking Immodium while pregnant, but none about while breastfeeding. (Maybe my search-fu is bad.)
Does anyone have experience with this?
My doctor doesn't have a clue about it. He just looks it up in his reference book, says there's no data about it for pregnancy and breastfeeding, so I shouldn't use it. I'm using the NHS in the UK, so it's difficult to switch doctors.
I did explain to him that when I lived in the US, I saw a very good gastroenterologist for many years, during which we tried many, many other ways to control my IBS-D and found this was the only thing that got me out of the bathroom enough to function.
For what it's worth, I usually take 1-2 pills per day (though I've needed less since getting pregnant, which I expect to change back again).
So far, I've found some places saying not to take it, for example, the Immodium website: http://www.imodium.co.uk/faq#n43
And I've found some places saying it's okay, for example, OBFocus: http://www.obfocus.com/reference/Formulary/Drugs%20in%20Pregnancy/Loperamide.htm
Thanks in advance, Amy
