Hi folks. In working to get my system back in order, I'm trying to eliminate things I may not have thought of. Should I be careful about how much Fish Oil I take. If not, what may be other sources of Omega 3 that I should take? ThankS!

Hi,
Fish oil may trigger diarrhea in some people, but other than that it's fine:) The general dose for health benefits is around 1000-1500mg a day. For some people, the higher range of that dose may cause loose stools, but this should improve as your body adjusts to it too:)

Fish oil causes IBS symptoms for me even in low doses. No matter how long I take the capsules the problem persists. I removed them from my diet. I find I have to get my omega 3/5 directly from the fish by eating them - particularly salmon - but I have to be careful of portion sizes.

That's really helpful. My diarrhea has been very stubborn, even when I get strict and I thought I'd remove it for a while. I'm going to check if there is another source of Omega 3 in a supplement form that is not an oil.

By definition omega 3 fatty acid is an oil.

Thank you. I'd been taking fish oil in those dosages for years without problem but now that I have super soft stools/diarrhea all the time even with a strict IBS diet, I'm re-thinking that. Right now I'm doing an "experiment" by eliminating it for a week and see if there's a difference. If there is a difference, I thought to see if it's just the Fish Oil that is the problem, maybe something like krill oil or a vegetarian Omega 3 would be better.

I thought I might find another type of Omega 3 capsule even if it is an oil. Any suggestions are welcomed.
