Only people who have reduced levels of stomach acid ("hypochlorhydria") should take Betaine HC. Was it prescribed by your doctor?

It won't likely help with pain. It is for stomach problems. You have a bowel problem not a stomach problem. Ask you doctor.

I tried Betaine HCL at the recommendation of twp of my doctors. They told me to try it and see if it would help. Basically, I was told that if I felt any burning (heartburn, etc.) to stop. I was gutsy (no pun intended:) and I tried it. At first it seemed to do nothing so I kept trying it...after a few weeks I felt terrible and had many new pains in my stomach. I did not think it was for me and didn't want to continue risking more problems, so I gave it up.
To me this was similar to the idea of trying apple cider vinegar with meals...It is based on low stomach acid as Syl mentioned.
I got the impression that some doctors don't know exactly what to do so they give you things to "try." I'm not to inclined to do that anymore.
