I thought this was a recent post, but I see it's a few years old. I haven't eaten these things in AGES! But thanks for the reminder, 'cause I just might have to get some again; they're DELICIOUS!

Did you read Heather's original responding post? She explains the fat content, as follows:

Quote:

Six grams of fat equals 54 fat calories (because fats have 9 calories per gram). What you care about is how much of the calories in these egg rolls comes from fat. So - what is the total calorie count per egg roll? Then look at the calorie count from fat per egg roll. That is the number you want to be under 25% or so.

Example - the egg roll has 300 calories. 54 of those calories are from fat. That's only 1/6th the total calorie count, or less than 20%, so no problem. But if that eggroll only has 100 calories, and 54 are from fat, that means more than half of that eggroll is pure fat. Too much!

As a really general rule, try to keep your fat calories to less than 100 per snack, and less than 200 per meal. That's about 1 tablespoon of fat for those 100 calories. If you actually measure out 1 T of oil, you'll see that that's a pretty good amount, and you don't want to eat more than that all at once. This is a really general rule, okay? Things will vary by how much you're eating, how much soluble fiber, etc. But IN GENERAL, if the fat calories are over 100 per serving for the label you're reading, that's too much.

Did that answer your question?

As for the shrimp, I can't answer because I wouldn't TOUCH the stuff. I HATE shrimp!

I looked all over for the Pagodas, Publix, as well as Wild Oats and ended up buying the wrong thing. Did not calculate the fat well.

I will check home and tell you about how many fat calories etc. and you can help me calculate and that way learn OK? Thanks. What is threads? and these questions and answers are moved around right? And what do we delete or do we not?

"Threads" are strings of posts under one subject heading.

These questions and answers get moved around so that the current posts are first and the older ones are last. The highlighted posts are those that have current responses.

What do we delete? Nothing, unless you change your mind about a post you made, then you can go back into it, click "edit," then "delete". But you can only delete your own posts, no one else's.

You're doin' fine, JB. It's a lot to learn.

The eggrolls I bought say 70 calories. Calories from fat is 15. The total fat is 2. This is not enough right. I think I also need something else right? And I think this is too much fat for the number of calories because I multiply 15x9=135. I am confused. And thanks for all the clearing-up. JB

I believe you would multiply the 2 grams of fat by 9. That would give you 18. Then you take the 70 calories and divide by 18 and multiply times 100. That should give you 26%.

I think that's how to do the math - if I'm wrong, someone please correct me!

When the label says "Calories from fat 15" then that's what you use to determine the percentage. Take the calories from fat, and divide by total calories.

For this example: 15 / 70 * 100 = 21%

That means the fat intake for this is 21% of the total calories, which is a safe amount. As Heather posts on How to Eat for IBS "Keep your fat intake to 20% - 25% of your total calories".

Hope that helps clear things up, as for times when that "Calories from fat" amount is not shown, I'm not sure what the calculation is.

If I'm totally wrong on this please someone tell me! I've been following this..
Thanks, Kat

What kind of eggrolls did you buy, JB?

Michelle's got it figured out right. 26% is only 1% over our limit, so I would go for it. Serve some rice with it, which would cut down on the fat percentage of the entire meal. Chow down!
