So I'm wondering if anybody here can relate and maybe explain what went bad.
Last night I wanted to participate with the rest of the crowd who wanted to order Indian. I know from Heather's book Indian is very iffy.
I thought the Shrimp Biryani was most likely to be safe. I made sure when I ordered to ask what it is cooked in and to make sure it does not have yogurt, butter, or garlic. I was assured it did not have dairy, so I ordered.
Instantly while eating I started to feel that very specific bloat I get when I eat dairy. Following the meal, I was on the toilet six times and today feel just really bloated, a mess.
So either the Indian Restaurant is lying, or some mystery ingredient did it. Biryani did not specify it had curry powder (I would think it would not) it just said spices. Also, the way I feel, again, it is how I get when I have dairy.
If the restaurant didn't lie, what then did this to me? My guess is they cooked it in ghey and din't know enough english vocab to know that ghey is the same as butter.

Not being familiar with this dish, I googled it and brought up several recipes from several different sites and OMG!!! Just reading them made my tummy flutter! A ton of spices, butter, yogourt, etc in varying combos in basically all of the recipes.
Based on that, I would say, the dish itself was maybe not the best choice?
It's hard going out, I know. I used to bite the bullet, do it, and pay for it later.

Yeah, but ginger, garlic, chilis, cloves, corriander, fennel, coconut, chili powder and nuts??
All I'm saying is that this is a spicy dish (as listed in every recipe I looked up)and one that I would stay away from.

Well, he said it had no garlic, that it was just done in a tomato gravy. Never thought spices would be a big deal, wow.
Let me ask, since I am suffering the day after, is there anything I can take that will help or do you just have to gut it out in time?

Well, as you know we are all different BUT spices are a huge trigger for me and tomato sauce is a no no as well.
As for the day after? Stick to your safe foods...bland is the name of the game...at least for me....and suffer thru it.
Remember today the next time you head out with friends to eat. Was it worth it? If yes, then go for it. If no....well, that pretty much answers itself, right?
May tomorrow be better for you.

it is very, very difficult to get foods at Indian restaurants that are not absolutely soaked in fat of some kind. Even their rice dishes have a ton of oil.
