Is oatbran the same as oatmeal?

Hi, i was just wondering whether someone could tell me if its the same thing? I have recently brought some oatbran and it says on the packet its a good source of soluble fibre but i didnt think that bran was safe?

Oatbran is the husk that is removed from the oatmeal. Oatmeal has roughly equal amounts of soluble and insoluble fiber (approx. 2 grams of each). Oat bran has more insoluble fiber than soluble fiber (about 3 grams and 2 grams respectively).

Here is a link to a study that compared the effects of oat bran and pysllium on IBS suffers. Early dropout was most common in the bran group. Cereal brans including oat bran are know to exacerbate IBS symptoms. It might be best to stick with oatmeal

The bran is the outer part of the oat and it is mostly insoluble fiber so I guess it depends how much insolubles you can tolerate.
