Since the 1970s I've had a history of stomach problems with cramping, loose bowels and pain. I've seen many doctors including gastroenterologists. I've had an exploratory laparotomy that cut out a Meckels diverticulum. The surgeon and family doctor were sure that was the problem. Later I continued to have the same symptoms. Another gastroenterologist took real time xrays(?)and he showed me the screen that showed my bowels contracting rather violently. He prescribed Konsul (ground psyllium seed) which indeed helped. The only problem was that the Konsul gave me a lot of gas which in itself caused pain. Some years later in a desperate attempt to find an answer I went online and found Heather's website. I tried her acacia soluble fiber and have been using it ever since. It didn't completely relieve the gas problem but the gas was much less. I no longer have cramps or loose bowels. Since I've been taking the acacia fiber I've had clean endoscopys and colonoscopys. Before that I've always had polyps and had to go in every three years instead of the now five. I am of course reluctant to ascribe not having polyps to the acacia fiber because I'm a scientist but I believe one should go with whatever works. I do not follow a strict diet. Since I am lactose intolerant I take lactase pills. That along with the Acacia fiber worked for me.
