As most of you, I am continually trying different things to help me live and cope with IBS (diarrhea). I recently purchased Acacia from Heather and since I never took fiber supplements, I started the product by taking about 1 teaspoon, once a day. I've been doing that for about a week now and I'm finding that I am have looser stools and extreme bloating - is this normal when starting out? Just wanted to get some feedback - ideas. Thanks. This is the first time I've posted here - I do read the posts and love the newsletter.

Welcome, "T"!
I am also a "D". I just started on acacia 3 weeks ago, and I'm having a problem with bloating as well -- however, I don't attribute it to the acacia as much as just plain old IBS. Are you drinking fennel tea? It's supposed to help with bloating.
I noticed some bloating and cramping when I tried to increase the acacia too soon, and was better when I dropped back on the dose a little.
Regardless, I am feeling so much better from the acacia, and I expect it to improve as my body gets used to it -- and to the probiotic I just started on.
It's really all trial-and-error. If you hadn't been having any fiber supplements before the acacia, it's really important to start out SLOOOOWLY. 1 teaspoon once a day seems pretty slow, so that should work -- but, as Heather emphasizes, make sure it's a LEVEL MEASURING teaspoon, not a serving spoon, there's a big difference.

Yep, check your dose, I'd reduce to half the sized teaspoon you're using now and see how you go with that for a while. Heather posted recently on this. Seems I was overdosing slightly. I'm now down to half a level teaspoon and MUCH more comfortable. I've no idea what a measuring teaspoon is compared to a standard tea-stirring teaspoon (which all seem to be different sizes anyway), so try half the dose you're currently on for a while and gradually take it from there. I have noticed some bloating but nothing painful and no more gas than I normally have! ha ha. The acacia has helped a lot and I am now up to about 2 Tbls a day after about 2 months or so. Maybe cut back for a while and see if that helps you. Could it be from anything else you are eating? Good luck.
