I read somewhere in the message boards that calcium can be constipating--so what should we folks with IBS C do for calcium supplements? Any ideas--thanks in advance!

Try supplementing with equal parts calcium and magnesium, or with 1 part magnesium to 2 parts calcium (recommendations vary). Calcium can be constipating; magnesium can have a laxative effect; so the two balance each other out. Try to find a supplement that combines the two, preferably in a high-quality form such as calcium and magnesium citrate. (It'll be expensive, though!)

Tess Louise - I take about 2000 mg of calcium a day because of being post menopausal and bone loss. So how much magnesium citrate should I take to even this out?
Thx. Sharon

1000-2000 mg--you could try either dose and see which works better for you. I tried to find more information on dosage but hadn't any luck. If there's a medical page online that you particularly like you could try searching there.
