Over the past 12 years with IBS, I now have chronic fatigue. I feel so tired all the time. Did anyone else experience chronic fatigue? And did it go away as the symptoms decreased?

The co-occurrence of chronic fatigue ( CFIDS ) and IBS is common. They both seem to involve the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis ( HPA axis ). I was diagnosed with CFIDS along with my IBS about 15 years ago. The way I managed to deal with CFIDs was to dramatically reduce stress, better manage my IBS through diet and slowly but consistently increase the amount of physical exercise I was doing. Increasing the amount of exercise slowly but steadly I believe is a key ingredient in my recovery. It took about 8 years but I can confidently say I have overcome the CFIDS.

My fatigue has absolutley compounded as my IBS symptoms worsened. I am always most tired with the worst symptoms- it feels as tho my body is fighting itself just to move and digest food. exhausting.

Syl,
What type of exercise do you do?

Have you ever been tested for a yeast problem? One of the main symptoms with that is fatigue and IBS symptoms. Were you on antibiotics for a while or do you eat a lot of refined sugars?

I swimming 30 x 25m lenghts 5 times a week. As well, during the spring and summer I work a lot in garden and yard. I should add that it took me about 8 years to get my physical activity up to the current level after having difficulty making from the bedroom to bathroom due to CFIDS. It was a slow and sometimes painful process.

Good for you Syl, that is amazing. I have FM along with the IBS and every other initial you can think of....lol. So I know what an enormous effort this must have been for you. I can't walk around the block with out needing the bathroom. But I am still working on it, so maybe some day.................
