Who here can safely eat avocados? Or do most of you tend to avoid them? I'm really concerned about whether or not I should take them out of my diet. I love them!! I would miss them...but are they a problem?
Lots of responses, both positive or negative, would be appreciated.

I have tried eating avocados for over a year with no success. They give me D, gas and bloating. It took me a long time to figure out why. For a while I thought it was the fat content. Recently I learned they contain a sugar alchol which acts like other sugar alcohols such as sorbitol and manitol producing D and/or gas & bloating in some individuals (see section 6 on polyols in reference below). Avocados are one of the fruits where individual tolerances may differ.

Thanksfor replying. I just found this on the internet
http://www.upmc.com/HealthAtoZ/patienteducation/Documents/IrritableBowelDiet.pdf
It says it helps with Diarhea. I wonder if that means it causes constipation to be worse?

They are high in soluble fibre so should help both c and D. I eat them all the time with out issue. they are high in fat (though heart healthy fats) so I wouldn't mix them with other fatty foods.

Luv them! Eat them all the time. They may or may not be a problem for you. We can't answer that for you. Trial and error, unfortunately.
