My Boyfriend (who does not have IBS) is going to be starting the "Master Cleanse" detox this week, and I've been considering doing it with him. He did it about 9 months ago & felt great afterwards (they recommend a minimum of 10 days). I was hesitant because of my IBS (D), but am now thinking it might be good for IBS to cleanse my system. Has anyone tried it with IBS? Are there other cleanses that may be better for people with IBS?

Sorry but I think this is a BAD idea. For you and for him.

I do not believe in "cleanses" I believe if you eat whole foods and nothing processed, your body will begin to work the way it is meant to.

Be very careful with what you do.

Check Heathers newsletter article Detox Diets: Fasting and "Cleansing" Not Necessary . The link to Weils article is broken. Here is the correct link.

Generally speaking our bodies are quite capable of detoxing themselves if you eat the right foods and exercise. Cleansing and detox are not necessary. It is not wise to have an empty stomach and therefore an empty bowel particularly if you are IBS-D.

colon cleanses are a bad idea. One it can upset the normal gut flora, but also for other reasons.

I really admire your desire to improve your health ans support your partner. However I think this cleanse is bad news. I'm IBS D and I feel dreadful when I don't eat. This diet also doesn't seem to allow for any soluble fibre and it mentions laxative use.
