Please help me with fruits...desperate!

If I am constipated and in pain, what fruits are best for me to eat and which should I stay away from? I know everyone is different, but please share what fruits you are able to eat and how many per day. Please tell me if you are C or D? Please.....

Have you found that you have difficulties with some particular fruits? If yes, which one do you suspect are a problem?
If you have problems with high fructose corn syrup and honey then you might have difficulties with fruits that contain excess fructose (i.e more fructose than glucose). Up to 50% of IBSers have this problem. Fruits to avoid include mango, papaya, apples, cherries, dates, figs, grapes (black), guava, honeydew melon, lychee, nashi fruit, pears, persimmon, plumes, prunes, raisins, star fruit, sultana, quince, watermelon. Dried fruits and fruit compotes and juices/jams made of the above fruits in general.
Some safer fruits are kumquat, grapefruit, lemons, limes, bananas, blackberries, boysenberries, blueberries, cranberries, jack-fruit, kiwi, mandarins, oranges, passion fruit, pineapple, rhubarb, strawberries, raspberries, tamarillo, tangelo.
Careful of apricots, nectarines, peaches because they contain sorbitol which can cause problems for some IBSers.

Ripe bananas, mangos, papayas, pineapple, and citrus are best IMO.

....make constipatios and/or gas, bloating worse? That's why they put people on the BRAT diet for diarrhea? I am terrified of eating bananas, although I like them
Lately, I've been eating berries, papaya, oranges and canned peaches. I thought the cooked canned peaches would be okay since heating reduces the fructose. (I don't think I have a problem with fructose though)

It is great if you don't have a problem with fructose. I sure miss the taste of sweet fruits. Cooking does not change the amount of fructose in a food.

I think the banana thing is open on another thread. Yes ripe ones can help you go and green ones definitely block everyone up! As for the BRAT diet being for D, I always thought it was more like food for digestive problems either way. Just really soothing, easy to digest food.
I find a lot of helpful info in talking to people without IBS, like my husband. Sometimes they really know exactly what certain foods do to them and if they have those issues we would have more. Most people get C from underripe bananas (also red meat, cheese).

Well...I get backed up A LOT. So I guess I should eat more fruits. However, I thought 1) Oranges and Pinneapples we had to avoid? 2) I can't handle bananas, don't know why. I can handle honeydew melons though. -What fruits should I focus my diet on? -Are CANNED fruits ok (this is MUCH easier for me)?

Yes, but for canned/frozen is cheaper, easier, more convenient.
1) Are canned/frozen fine for our purposes? 2) Can I have a list of safe fruits/veges

Fruits are much better than rye bread! yuck
There is no reason to avoid any fruit and almost any vegetable. My cautions are grapes and melons which tend to cause bloating. For IF fruit, citrus fruits are best. I have posted this list before but here goes.
Top to bottom safest to unsafest fruits:
(banana for some)
mango and papaya
canned peaches and applesauce
canned pears, oranges, grapefruit
berries, pineapple and kiwis
peaches, plums, nectarines
peeled apples and pears
grapes and melons (watermelon seems better than other melons)
That is not a scientific list! but just sort of my experience. There are other fruits too.

Prepared fruit isn't necessarily cheaper. Part of what you pay for is peeling and chopping. A pineapple costs $4 but you can get several servings out of it. I eat them so much I can cut one up in 60 seconds.

bananas are the worse thing I can put in my body!The last attack i had was from one just half of one to. I eat peaches and strawberrys thats it for now. would love to have more choices. hth emmasmom ibs-c gas

I eat can fruit I buy peaches that are in 100 percent juice. At first I use to get out the portion I wanted to eat then I would rise them off to get any juice off of them. and I even found can strawberrys that are good. I buy frozen fruit as well blueberries & strawberrys. hth emmasmom ibs-c gas

There`s no sense in limiting your intake of fructose if you don`t actually have malabsorption.
