I just discovered that I might be intolerant to fructose.
As it stands I have celiac, severe dairy intolerance, multiple food sensitivities and am 16 lbs underweight. I also have gastritis and lately anything w/ fructose has been exacerbating my symptoms. If I now have to cut out fruits and vegetables from my diet i am gonna become anorexic and die. How the hell am I supposed to live this way?

Sorry to hear things are not going so good. One can survive on a very restricted diet. It is just a pain but not impossible. Severe measure like the one you claim in the message header are not really necessary
When you say you might be fructose intolerant how did you figure that out?
What tests did you have for celiac disease? A endoscopy? In a previous message you posted about this that this was unconfirmed. Has it been confirmed now?

Jason, I want to give you a hug here.
There are answers to everything and it often can take a little time, though not always very long.
Can you seek a good gastroenterologist in your area? I actually see a great nurse practitioner in my local area who knows TONS about IBS. She has been such a blessing to me.
I have at times dropped as much as 16 pounds when under stress, only to have it come back again when I was relaxed and could eat healthy. Some of us don't want to eat when under stress (drop weight), while others can't stop eating when under stress (gain weight). Seemingly this is the nature of the mind-gut connection that is somewhat askew for all of us.
You CAN get a grip if you give yourself some time. Do not attempt to self-diagnose yourself. Forget reading all of the technical information and trying to figure that all out.
Take your attention to things you enjoy doing even if in small doses (moderation). Your appetite will return. I personally like warm chicken broth when I cannot eat much solid food, though I continue to add cooked rice and seasoning into this until I feel totally hungry for some 'real food'.
If you can relax, you will be able to stabilize your mind-body connection and your weight will return to normal.
For me personally, I have found that my symptoms do not depend so much on what I eat but rather the quantity and timing of intake (small portions), and for sure I need to feel relaxed when I eat.
Having friends and support systems are so very important to overall health!

I think what Jason was attempting to say here was that if he could not eat anything, he was going to lose his life from malnutrition. I doubt he was talking about deliberate suicide.
Frankly, sometimes too much info on these boards confuse people and they then become fearful.
What many need (myself included) is simply practical advice, loving understanding, encouragement, and not a lot of scientific evidence around this and that. Such info is already posted on Heather's info research.
No offense intended, Syl, but sometimes you seemingly get too much into technical info that even doctors don't read. Why would a patient want to read all of this? It can freak them out!
I'm not being mean here, yet I know the path of the pain that comes along with IBS in EVERY way. Sorry if I have wounded your ego in posting this truth.
People need friends and encouragement on these boards... i.e. practical information, love, and understanding... including what others have found helpful in overcoming current symptoms... not necessarily all of the 'medical lingo and studies' that make them more anxious than they already are.

Jason, if the tests have shown that you do have celiac, lactose intolerance, possible fructose intolerance, multiple food sensitivities, then I am not going to ask you for the details of every test, how they went about it, who it was administered by, and on and on and on. I am going to trust that you have had good medical care, and accurate results.
What you may have to do is find a good dietician, if you can afford it. It sounds like you may need help in planning a diet around your issues.
I am so sorry that you are having a tough time now.

Celiac is still not confirmed because I have been on a gluten free diet for a while. But my stool antibodies for gliadin are still high even though the biopsy & blood work were negative. I chose to not do a gluten challenge and my GI doc , who is a celiac specialist, advised me not to. so i still dont know for sure.
As for fructose, seems like anything with sugar is irritating my indigestion/reflux and it just makes sense that i would be intolerant to fructose along w/ everything else. Im just amazed...my biopsy looked perfectly normal yet I am still having difficulty eating and absorbing nutrients. all my blood work is normal as well, save for an elevated liver enzyme (ALT)
im kinda in the dark and tend to self diagnosis...only time I was ever right was with the gluten but everything else i susopected was always false

Ah - interesting background on the celiac. Sounds like you have a good GI doc.
Do you think you might have fructose malabsorption and not fructose intolerance. Fructose intolerance is a hereditary disease normally detected in childhood. It is very serious disease.
Fructose malabsorption is the more common problem. It is a peculiar problem too. Let me explain.
Even though white and brown sugar contain fructose they also contain exactly equal amounts of glucose. Our bodies can digest fructose when it is accompanied with same amount of glucose.
In fructose malabsorption the difficulty arises when foods contain more fructose than glucose such as honey, high fructose corn syrup, some fruits and their juices. Some of us have difficult digesting the excess fructose but no problems with white/brown sugar. This problem can occur in normal as well as IBSers There is a breath test for fructose malabsorption if you think it might be a problem.
What fruits do you normally eat? What foods are giving problems?

Well, interestingly enough ive been consuming pears like crazy for years and also notice that i feel poorly with melons, mangos, papays and apples...all high fructose fruits...also asparagus, onions and artichokes have been a problem lately..all contain fructans. I feel a bit better with bananas.
As for my gastritis...my new theory is that I may have been fructose sensitive (not intolerant) for a while now and since the gastritis anything with fructose is just irritating it & preventing it from healing..
when i was treating my candida...I was taking a lot of probiotics with FOS as well as a magnesium supplement which contained citric acid and wormwood...all together probly cause an inflammation
hows that sound?
