It is hard for me to plan to take a capsule an hour before meals. How long AFTER meals can I safely take a capsule?

Thanks!

If you cannot take your peppermint capsule an hour or two before a meal so that it is out of your stomach and into your gut before food arrives, then I would suggest that you either sip peppermint tea or suck on hard peppermint candy after the meal. This would only apply if you do not have GERDS.

I don't see that there would be any benefit from taking the peppermint capsules after a meal with no food following an hour or two later. If I understand correctly, the peppermint capsules calm the gut prior to the food arriving, avoiding some of the otherwise IBS symptoms after eating. Once the food has arrived in the gut, it's too late to condition things ahead of it.

I could be wrong, so I defer the more absolute answer to this question to Heather who can provide more concrete information about using the peppermint capsules.

It depends on your prevalence of acid reflux. I have no issues with that and can take peppermint whenever I want to. In fact. I used to take it after meals that were not settling well, when I felt grumbles. Then Heather explained it works best opening up in the intestines and that is accomplished on an empty stomach. Now I try to remember to take them before meals, such as eating out. I still take them when I have gurgles because they are better than immodium, which causes C, for me.

IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!
