How much is your life centered around your IBS?
When I was diagnosed, I was in total denial. I accepted it on the outside, but deep inside I rejected it. When we were looking at this little tiny one-bedroom condo to buy -- with only one bath -- we had another home up in Canada and I figured, okay, the condo has only one bath, so what? And so we bought the condo. BIG mistake! How many bathrooms do you have? If you have IBS and live with at least one other person, you need more than one!
When we sold the house in Canada, we wanted to build a new home south of us here. I was afraid. By then I had finally accepted the IBS -- I had no choice -- and I was scared to even drive down to our new lots because there are no public bathrooms along the route -- it's in the woods. What will I do if I have to poo? Also, the new house is so much farther away from my doctor; I have IBS and need to be near a doctor! OH NO!
I decided I was really getting sick and tired of letting this condition of mine rule my life. Also, it was not fair to my husband; why should MY IBS rule HIS life as well?
We bought the lots and have signed with a builder; we are scheduled to break ground this week. Oh, and the house has THREE bathrooms.
Bev

Congratulations on buying the lots and breaking ground! 3 bathrooms huh? I wish. I have 1 bathroom in my home and there are 3 people. Yup a little iffy at times. Not too bad actually, my husband and daughter, bless them both, ask first if they can go just in case I have to go. Back about 10 yrs ago it was awful. They would just get in then right back out for me!! We were going to put in a toilet in the basement but due to high sewer piping and low ceilings its a no go. Anyways, congrats again!! TAke care. We have 2. I love it! When we go to visit Chris's family, they only have 1 and it drives me nuts!! Especially since we usually go around Christmas when EVERYONE goes home and you have a million people and only one bathroom.

I'm amazed at how many people can fit in a bathroom. I just learned of the house down the street where a couple live with their ten -- that's TEN -- children. They have 2 bathrooms. OHMYGOD!

Good for you Bev! As you know, all of us struggle at times with how IBS impacts our lives in so many different ways. I can identify with all your fears.
Your new house sounds wonderful, and you are so blessed to be able to afford to build unlike many others. Three bathrooms...that's heaven isn't it?
I know it's difficult to step out of our comfort zone, but I believe if we don't try to once in awhile, we may end up watching others live life, and not participate living ourselves. You sound like a woman full of energy. Go live your life to it's fullest..take chances, it sound like you have lots of support to help you take these steps. Congratulations on your new house!

Congrats on breaking ground for a new home Bev. How fun that will be and three bathrooms - good for you.
We own a two story home and my husband installed a bathroom in the basement. We have three bathrooms - one on each floor. I don't deal with D that often so one bathroom doesn't affects me like you. However, once in awhile all three of my boys have to poop at the same time and three toilets really come in handy.
No my IBS doesn't rule my life, because I won't allow it to. When I was dx. a year and half ago I was so relieved to have a name to what was causing me to be so sick. I believe GERDS was causing me to be more sick at the time.
Good for you Bev for taking steps to deal with your IBS and accepting it.

Hey Alicia! Thank you! How nice. We're real excited about the house -- in fact, we're just breaking ground this afternoon; the loggers are coming in to remove the trees before the big snow storm hits tomorrow. We love the location; it's real close to the lake, so we can row.
By the way, Alica, I used to do crew with Marin Rowing.
