Hi, y'all! I'm going Tuesday for a breath test to see if I have H.Pylori. They treated me for it before, but never tested me for it. If it is positive, the GI is going to treat me for it, again. If it is negative, he is going to give me another antibiotic to increase the good flora in my gut.
Should I be nervous about the breath test? You just blow, right?
Happy to be back for a while! Meds aren't doing so hot. Having to switch to another pain med. Lobramax (sp?) I go to pick it up today. Has anyone tried it and had good experience with it?
Hugs!

You drink 14C- or 13C-labelled urea, which the H. Pylori metabolizes, producing labelled carbon dioxide that can be detected when you breath into a device.
No need to be nervous at all

Thanks, Syl!
Does that stuff taste bad? She said it had artificial sweeteners in it which I can't handle, AT ALL! I told her that, but I also said that I would stand the pain to try to get some help!
I can't get stable. No matter what I do, It's so hard. I ate some salmon last night, I guess that is the cause of my pain today. I thought I would be ok with salmon over some white rice, think again. This morning I ate 2 marshmallows that someone brought with a fruit tray, and it set me off! I'm in terrible pain, and can't go home! The marshmallows have HFCS in them. Killer pain. It could also be the small hershey's kiss I ate earlier. Shouldn't have done that.
I guess it is my fault, but I didn't ask for this illness in the first place I'm so upset.
Sorry for whining, just frustrated and don't feel well! Thanks for listening.

Also keep in mind that antibiotics are non-selective. This means that they will kill both good and bad gut flora (good bacteria). So be sure to take a probiotic AFTER you are finished with the antibiotics. This will help reinoculate your gut with good bacteria.
Good Luck!

Good luck, should be a breeze.
I'm curious, you said your going to take antibiotics to increase the good flora in your gut? I thought antibiotics depleted all the flora in one's gut? Funny thing is, when i was first diagnosed my GI prescribed antibiotics flagyl and metronidazol and they worked instantiously to stop my attack. For some reason they don't work anymore at all.
I here ya on the not getting stable part. I have been pretty bad for the last 9 months and it seems no matter what i eat or how many probiotics etc. i take nothing works.

I thought the same thing about antibiotics. But the GI said that there was an antibiotic to increase the good flora??? I don't know what it is. I'll find out tomorrow. I don't feel like driving two hours back to the doctor! Grrrr.... I guess anything is worth having a calm gut!
And, like you said, nothing seems to work! I just keep getting attacks. I got a bad one yesterday, and I don't usually get them on the weekends, must've been bad! I'm ready to divorce my belly! I could be the woman without a torso. LOL

Perhaps he means that the antibiotic will kill some bad bacteria which are competing with good bacteria for nutrients. Once the bad bacteria are killed the amount of good bacteria will increase. You might ask him for a better explanation next time you see him and then post his comments so we can understand better what he means

Took the breath test yesterday. Very painless and comfortable.
Unfortunately, I'm negative for H.Pylori. I was kinda hoping that would be the culprit, but it is not! If it were, then maybe I could find some relief!
Ughh!
The Librax is helping, tremendously! I'm still very bloated though! I can't seem to get this belly back down! Ginger helps, and so does fennel, but I can't afford any right now after that test! I need some relief from the bloat!
At least my gut doesn't sound like the creature from the gut lagoon! LOL
