Are you a perfectionist? Before I was "officially" diagnosed with IBS, all the doctors I saw thought that was what I had -- because I'm a perfectionist! They each asked me that question. I like things "just so" and I'm hardest on myself. If it's not perfect, then it's not right. If I'm not perfect, then I'm not right. (I've subsequently eased up a little, thankfully.)

Anybody else out there?

I'm right there with ya Bev! Don't even ask how many endless hours I spent writing papers in college! LOL And don't ask me if I would go back and re-read them after they were handed in and find new errors....sheesh!

I feel out of whack when things aren't in place. Like the house has to look a certain way whenever anyone comes over. I have to get home on a work night at a decent time to get things ready for the next day (pack lunches, pick out clothes etc) like the day is going to start off all wrong if these things are done the night before. Ugh I can drive myself nuts sometimes with the little things. So yes I think I know what you mean!

Absolutely not!!!
I'm the ultimate procrastinator, I find it very hard to live by any sort of schedules, rule or guidelines. I'm often on the last minute. All my essays for college and Uni were done all at once on the last minute by staying up late at night, and a couple of times I only wrote one paper - the draft and original all rolled into one off the top of my head. I'm not too extreme in my disorganised chaos, I do like a little order at times, things can only be very untidy for a while and then I just have to tidy up, and I have been known to be quite organised at times, I just sort of swing between the two, not too extreme one way or the other.

I can expect a bit too much of myself and be a bit too hard on myself at times though!

Ohhhh yeah, I'm a perfectionist too. Always have been and always will be. I never knew there was a connection between perfectionism and IBS! What's that all about?

Yeah! She's JUST like me -- obsessive compulsive. All my spices are in order alphabetically, and of course all labels face the front. Same with the pantry. It drives me nuts when Don moves my tummy tea in order to get to his instant coffee (ARGH!), then my tummy tea is turned over on the shelf so the name on the box doesn't appear in front.

All hangers have to hang the same way -- and the wooden suit hangers all have to have the same curve going the same direction, and all together -- no wooden hangers mixed with the plastic.

Yeah -- thanks Mag -- this lady is JUST like me! Okay, good to know I'm not the only crazy lady.

BUT -- Somebody STOP US!!

to live with everything in perfect order? You would go crazy if saw my shelf of spices - all thrown on one shelf and you have to dig through to find the right spice.

Maybe having three boys has something to do with that. I don't have time for order.

Absolutely NOT. Just the opposite! It drives me crazy when I can't find something. If my spice cabinet were like yours, I'd spend all my time looking for the bay leaves, getting frustrated, angry, and irritating my IBS. Meanwhile, my soup's boiling over and not getting the benefit of the bay leaves. ARGH!!!!

In my last job, I couldn't stand the disorganization there. I reorganized the supply room, ordering shelving and storage systems, and completely revamped the kitchen. When I was finished, my fellow workers were asking me if I would help them reorganize their kitchens for them. I love organization. As an attorney once told me 100 years ago, "organization's the key!"
