Hi, I just started taking VSL#3. You are supposed to drink it dissolved in something cold, so as to preserve the probiotics. So I'm wondering how long before or after taking it should I be consuming hot/warm foods. Since all my meals & drinks are taken warm, I don't want to diminish the benefits of the VSL#3. Anyone know?

You can eat and drink any time after taking the VSL#3.

Okay, thanks. I mean, the website doesn't say anything about waiting. Just seems kind of strange that I need to refrigerate it, drink it in cold water, but then could have my morning hot water & lemon right afterwards.

If you dissolve VSL#3 in a hot liquid it will kill the probiotic bacteria. However, once you drink a cool liquid with the probiotic mixed in it and then if you drink a hot liquid afterwords the hot liquid will be cooled immediately by the stomach juices and therefore the probiotic will not be affected. The reason for the keeping the probiotic in the refrigerator is to prolong the life time of the probiotic bacteria. Some probiotics don't need to be refrigerated because they have been freeze-dried and the probiotic is reactivate once a liquid is added. The method that is used depends on the type of probiotic and the manufacturer's preference.

Interesting - I didn't realize that hot foods/liquids were immediately cooled by my stomach juices. I always figured it was all warm and cozy in there! Thanks for the info, Syl.
