I am IBS-D and accidentally took more fiber then needed(for me) and when I wokeup this morning I felt a little like I was going to have an attack. I didn't and am now feeling fine however, my question is if you take more fiber then needed can itcause someone with D to have an attack?

Anythoughts would be really appreciated!

Thank you,

Sorry, I don't know I'm C, but noone has replied to your post.

What kind of fiber did you overdose on? If it was SF, then you probably won't get an attack. At least, I wouldn't think so!

Just don't let it happen again ha ha.

Eating Soluble Fiber can cause gas. That's why, for example, Heather recommends starting with a small amount of Acacia each day and increasing your intake slowly. That lets your body figure out how to handle the SF as you go along.

Furthermore, part of IBS is visceral hypersensitivity which means our guts are annoyed more easily by things like gas pressure than are tummies belonging to non-IBSers.

So I'd say "Yes". If you take in more SF than you're used to the "overdose" can cause gas and your overly sensitive gut could react by spasming which could cause an attack.

HTH.

Edited to add: I don't think this is likely to be a problem with eating SF foods just because it takes a lot of them to take in a lot of SF. Fiber supplements are more concentrated.

It is the SFS provided on this site. I usually take 1 or two TBLSP a day but I accidentally took three! Felt slightly odd the next morning and figured it was the overage of SF!!!

Thank for the replys/info.!!!!! I will make sure it never happens again!!!

Thanks again and everyone have a fantastic weekend!!!
