For those of you using or that have ever used this how did it work for you. Did it help with urgency, frequency and diarrhia? Just curious, this is the first time I have ever heard of VSL#3 was here on the board. If it has good reviews I wouldn't mind giving it a shot. ------------------------------ IBS-D, Diverticulosis

The clinical trials of VSL#3 showed an improvement in bloating but no effect on other individual symptoms such as abdominal pain, gas and urgency. Clinical trials for Align showed general improvement of many IBS symptoms including pain, discomfort and bowel habits in all types of IBS. Also the probiotic in Align (Bifidobacterium infantis) has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects too.
Here is a message I posted with links to the abstracts of the papers on the results of the clinical trials for some probiotics.

Unfortunately, Align is not sold in Canada. I take Life Start by Natren. It contains a different species of Bifidobacterium infantis than the one used in the clincal trials. It seems to be effective. Another vendor of Bifidobacterium infantis is NSI. Both of these contain some skim milk and Align contains caseinate but not lactose. Both are less expensive than Align.
