Prior to the holidays, It seemed like I finally found a combination of supplements that helped with my C. Natural calm and HMF probiotics were giving me a strong urge and my stools were bulkier and softer than they have been in a long time. this lasted for 2 weeks. Now for some reason my colon is in a spastic state and Ive been going every 2-3 days (while still taking both supplements); my stools are pencil thin and I have been very bloated. Why the change?

Which HMF probiotic are you taking? Some HMF products contain FOS which can be problematic for many IBSers.
Have you changed your diet?

Another thing you might consider is that not all probiotics are IBS friendly. It has been speculated in some IBS research that some probiotic species might worsen symptoms. Perhaps you might stop taking the probiotic for awhile and see what happens.

FOS means Fructooligosaccharide. It is a compound made up of long chains of fructose molecules. It occurs in nature in the form of inulin found in things like Jerusalem artichokes and garlic. It is frequently used as a soluble fiber supplement.

My opinion... that is what IBS is about. You don't have to change your diet for your gut to get spasmy and cause thin stools. It is most likely a stress sort of thing. When my gut changes into a new worse cycle, I up my fiber and tea intake, exercise more if possible and go back to basics with my easiest to digest foods. Alternatively, sometimes suppplements and diet changes will have a great reaction but one that is only temporary. It could be that the supplements you are on aren't really going to work for you. Sorry to be honest.
-------------------- IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!
