Question about IBS and antibiotics

Hi all,

I have a couple of questions about antibiotic usage.

I have a skin condition called rosacea that has been affecting my eyes. My dermatologist wants to put me on a three-month course of doxycycline (100mg/day).

I'm wondering how likely this drug (at this dosage) is to disrupt my IBS?

Also, what would you guys recommend in terms of a probiotic to offset the negative effects of the antibiotic?

Thanks so much for any comments/suggestions.

Chris

I would definitely take probiotics, especially if you are taking antibiotics. Antibiotics will wipe out all your good bacteria, as well, allowing yeast to proliferate. I personally believe they are helpful even when antibiotics are not a factor. I use Nature's Way Primadophilus Reuteri. I think probiotics can be a personal thing. I have tried others and did not have good results; they actually aggravated my symptoms.
