I am three months pregnant. I have had my IBS under control for sometime now. All I am eating is making me sick, ex:rice, noodles, bread, rice krispies. I keep running to the bathroom, and I have been off and on like this for months. My doctor just said to ride it out b/c pregnancy can trigger IBS. I have read all the info with IBS and pregnancy here. I take 1 immodium a day, and even that isn't helping. Can anyone offer some advice? I am pretty miserable! Thanks!

The foods you are eating are high starch/processed high carbs. Maybe that is part of the problem...dunno. Could you have developed a sensitivity to yeast or gluten? I did after my first pregnancy, and still cannot tolerate too much yeast.
So, if those foods are bothering you now, have you tried reducing/eliminating them to see if that makes a difference? How about taking probiotics? With changes in your hormones, you may have a yeast imbalance. If so, eating high starch/yeasty foods is definitely feeding the yeast, potentially causing IBS symptoms. Again, just a thought.

Unfortunately, that seems to be the bulk of the diet. Any veggies you do eat, have to be murdered before you can eat them. You cannot enjoy them in their natural raw state with all of the vitamins, minerals and enzymes in tact. And you seem to be only able to enjoy a limited amount with each meal. The bulk of your meal needs to be the starchy, white flour products. If you are pre-diabetic or diabetic this diet would spell disaster.

With that being said, I do understand the reasons and necessity of adopting it. It doesn't mean that we have to like it, I guess.

The other night I went out and enjoyed a wonderful meal with lots of fresh, lightly steamed veggies, along with my protein. I took a good hit of calcium before bed, along with Acacia, and only had a small amount of D the next day. If this is what I have to do to get the veggies, especially greens, that I feel I need to be healthy, then this is what I will do. I am really tired of white flour products, (no whole grains), starches, processed cereals, etc. ...you guys know what I mean.

Frustration speaking tonight. There just has to be a better way and another answer. I hope someone finds it someday.

I was taking probiotics and my doctor told me to stop. I was seeing a natural doctor who had me on natural supplements, and I was feeling the best I've felt all year. My doctor suggested to stop them after I got pregnant.I wasn't happy about it, but she said there wasn't enough info to find out if they are safe for the baby. I have to do what's best for the little one. So, what do you suggest that I eat? These were always my safe list of foods. Thanks for your help. This has been a very stressful three months, and I just want things to get better already!

Just wondering, why did the doctor tell you to go off probiotics? If you have a yeast problem, this would be the thing I'd use to feel better. What were the other natural supplements you were on before you were pregnant?

As for food choices, it boggles my mind how fresh, natural, whole foods loaded with minerals, vitamins, enzymes are the "bad" foods for those with IBS (causing us the most grief) and over-processed, white starchy foods are "good" for us (safe foods). I don't understand reasons why, but I think something happens over a period of time where our body can't tolerate the whole, natural foods anymore. We were created to eat those kinds of foods, after all. I learned by trial and error that for me, too much grains, processed sugar and especially yeast gave me much of my IBS symptoms. Once I stopped eating those foods, and started gradually introducing veggies in their place, along with protein, I felt much better. No one can tell you how your body will react. It is individual, but if you are not having success with what you are eating, change. If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get the same results. Maybe stop with the yeast foods for a bit and see if that helps. Also, too much sugar (natural and especially artificial) has been known to cause grief in some people. I try not to put anything artificial in my body these days. Look at all the added ingredients on all the food labels you eat. If you can't pronounce it, don't eat it
