the EFI diet seemed to really improve my IBS with one big problem: most of the time, especially at night, I would feel very bloated. I read on this site that inulin and psyllium based fiber suppliments are associated with bloating. It just so happens I was eating a fiber one bar every day (9g inulin based fiber) and using fiber choice suppliments (also inulin). So I switched to Acacia Tummy Fiber about a week ago, and it has been a huge difference. I don't feel bloated _at_all_
So if you are taking inulin or psyllium based fiber, please try Acacia!

If you have trouble with inulin it is a sign that you may possibly have difficulties with foods containing excess fructose (e.g. apples, pears, HFCS, honey) and fructans (e.g. found in wheat, onions, zucchini). Inulin is a fructan. A fructan is made up of many molecules of fructose strung together. There is an abstract of a research study in Heather's latest newsletter that shows fructose and fructans can be IBS triggers. There are links to some detailed studies by the same authors in this message that contain some useful information.
Hopefully you will have continued success with acacia

very interesting. i hope you are wrong because i love apples, honey, zuchini and eat lots of wheat products... i definately avoid HFCS and excess sugar in general already as i have had high triglycerides in the past. i was recently thinking of trying to go GF for a few weeks as a test. but now that dropping inulin has ended my bloating, i was thinking i may have finally hit my dietary sweet spot...
anyway, we'll see but i will keep these thoughts in mind. thanks for the specific input!
