What to eat for protein?

hi everyone,
After suffering for years with many symptoms, I was recently diagnosed with IBS w/ constipation. Over the past 6 months or so, I've eliminated all meats from my diet b/c they are virtually indigestible for me.
I have been sticking with eggs, cheese, fish and vegetarian options like soy burgers, which seem to be easier on my stomach, but now I'm reading on this site that eggs and diary, as well as soy, can be triggers.
So I'm wondering, what else can I eat besides fish that will be a good source of protein and also keep my stomach feeling OK? I also have hypoglycemia, so it's really important for me to get a decent, daily amount of protein or that triggers a whole other set of complications!
thanks for your help, it's comforting to know that although we're all suffering, I'm not alone!

Fish, seafood, chicken and turkey are IBS friendly sources of protein. Some IBSers can handle lentils, chickpeas and other beans which are another good source of protein too.

Thanks Syl. It appears that a bunch of foods I thought were helping me (i.e. I've been living on cheese & crackers, peanut butter & jelly and egg salad sandwiches on whole grain bread b/c they seemed "mild") have actually been hurting me.
Perhaps once I eliminate them, I'll be able to add some of the good things I though were hurting me (like lean chicken & turkey) back into my diet.

I understand. The big change for me came when I learned about the role of SF/IF and fructose in IBS. After increasing SF, dramatically reducing IF, particularly whole grains and raw vegetables, and removing high fructose foods particularly high fructose corn syrup and fruits like apples, pear, managoes, etc I became more stable. About year or so I later was able to add back in some foods I thought were troubling me. Generally speaking, I follow a more restricted version of Heather's diet.
Good luck ![](/messageboards/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif)
