I don't have an answer for you but I certainly would like one - I am allergic to bakers and brewers yeast. Anyone out there know if nutritional yeast is tolerated by people with yeast allergies?

Yes, but it doesn't bother me. Also, I have the Uncheese cookbook and it is indeed great! I made cheese for grilled cheese sandwiches, and put in a tomato and some Morning Star Farms bacon---delish!

Well, I've tried to find info on nutritional yeast. I read that it is a fungus, yet is an inactivated yeast, so it shouldn't bother those who may have a yeast allergy. I also read that some people have had reactions to nutritional yeast and it may bother them. So, I guess you'd have to try it yourself and see if it bothers you. Because it is a fungus, and I believe my IBS/IBD symptoms have been a result of that, then I am inclined to stay away from it,(inactivated or not), if it is not a necessary part of my diet. I can think of other ways to get the health benefits. Let me know if you find out anything else about it.

In my food allergy reference book (Dealing With Food Allergies by Janice Vickerstaff Joneja, PhD, RD) the author states that nutritional yeast is a no-no for people allergic to yeast. I'm not sure how that would equate to people having problems with yeast other than an allergy - just thought I'd throw that out there for everyone.

Thank you for sharing that. I'm thinking that it probably isn't good for those with any kind of yeast sensitivity. Don't see what the big whoop is about it, really. We don't "need" yeast in our diet, so just avoid it if at all possible if you think it will bother you. Throughout this whole IBS/IBD diet change, I've learned to "eat to live", not "live to eat".
