I am D and have lots of gas so I absolutely can't do Metamucil--it causes bloat followed by gas followed by D. Acacia is much gentler and calms my tummy right down.

I stay away from any of the shelf brands because the flavoring, fake sugars and all cause issues. Acacia did give me gas and it will when you first use it but that eases up. I'm using 1Tblsp at every meal and things are better. I also use Triphala which is a rememdy from India and that has helped a lot in combination with Acacia.

I stay away from metamucil. It made my bloating and cramps a lot worse without helping my C. I use acacia and clear citrucel (which unfortunately they stopped making ).

I have serious constipation, since childhood, and I use the off brand powder of metamucial, without the sugar, and tons of water every morning. I also take 9 flax oil gel caps EVERY evening before I go to bed and 3 capsules of psyllium at lunch time with tons of water. This may sound like I'm overdoing it, but this gets me going once a day. Water is the most important part of it because psyllium, which is what metamucil is, can actually cause constipation if you don't drink enough liquids.

I have IBS-C & can't use fiber of any kind. I've tried them all. No matter how little or how much I take it makes my C much worse. I do better getting my fiber from fresh veggies & fruit.

IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!
