Hi,
I am newbie and I saw a lot of yummy looking recipes in Heather's book and on this website but quite a few that appeal to me seem to have bananas.
I have a biggie banana allergy, I can't even be in the same room with a ripe banana as it makes me choke. Ya, its a weird allergy and now I am stuck carrying an Epipen and zooming through the fruit section in the grocery store
Is there such a thing as trying to substitute bananas for something else?
Reading the post about banana bread made me salivate, I miss my mom's banana bread so bad! I still ate it while my allergy used to make my lips and eyelids swell but since now it causes problems with my airways I must forget about forever

Yikes - now that's an allergy! I'm so sorry...
You could use applesauce in the banana bread - it will have a good texture but not the same flavor, of course. Pumpkin puree would work too. For fresh fruit uses (like the banana creme pie recipe) try sliced mango, or peeled fresh peaches. Those will work well in fruit smoothies, too.
If there are other specific recipes you're looking at, post on the recipe board and we'll get you lots of ideas.
Best, Heather

Hi, Oceane! I'm not real crazy about bananas, or banana bread (although Shanna's recipe's pretty darn good!), so I always substitute canned punkin. YUM!
Bev.
